Kandall, Elizabeth
Name of Therapist:
Elizabeth Kandall,Ph.D.

I have great confidence in the power of psychotherapy to heal.  I see psychotherapy as a collaboration.  I work with people to figure out what is necessary and possible for understanding and change.

In my 17 years of private practice I have seen this process become useful and of benefit to many people.

My education and training include a Certificate in Psychoanalysis, NYU Post-Doctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.  My Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology is from The California School of Professional Psychology.

My interest in contemplative studies has led me to study mindfulness, meditation, and compassion.  These ancient ways of working with mental suffering are a complement to the work of psychoanalysis.  I am on the Faculty of the Contemplative Studies Project of New York where I teach on the contemplative approaches to reading and writing poetry. I completed the Foundations course at the NY Zen Center for Contemplative Care.  My dedication to social action is expressed through my co-founding and on-going work with The Fostering Connection, an organization promoting the use of psychotherapy as an agent of social change.
