I have a particular interest in helping people with personality and relationship problems. In therapy I try to create an environment where patients will feel safe sharing and exploring all their thoughts and feelings about themselves, so that we can trace how these affect their daily experiences. To do this we may also examine the person’s moment to moment experience in therapy. Understanding the interactions between internal assumptions on the one hand, and feelings and behavior, on the other, leads to a more stable sense of self and the possibility of different choices.

I have extensive experience and training in working psychodynamically and supportively with people who suffer from anxiety, depression and problems with intimacy, or who have chronically self-defeating patterns of behavior. When indicated I can help people to use cognitive and behavioral skills to cope with problems.

I am an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Weill-Cornell Medical College Psychiatry Department. I also teach and supervise advanced students at other graduate and post-graduate training programs. I feel particularly honored that I am able to help colleagues who refer me friends or family members or who ask for advice about their patients.
