I received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from New York University and became licensed in New York State in 1997.  I am also a graduate of the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.  Through a training grant from the National Institute of Mental Health, I conducted research on transference in everyday relations as a basic way of making sense of the social world.  This research has been part of my broader interest in our motivations for making meaning in our lives, and informed teaching a research-based seminar on Human Motivation at Barnard College for 15 years.

In my work with individual adults and couples, the focus of therapy has included anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, issues concerning self esteem, trauma, sexual orientation, gender, HIV status, nontraditional families, assisted reproduction, and adoption.  My office is in the West Village in Manhattan, where I have been practicing for over 15 years.
