Having had over 40 years of experience and training as a psychodynamically-oriented therapist, my focus is on helping people discover and explore the beliefs, feelings, and thoughts underlying their anxieties, mood swings, and self-defeating patterns. I aim to help clients get to know the younger parts of themselves, the parts that are often swept underground in order to adapt to family members’ beliefs and needs. I believe that making the often-unconscious connections between early relationships and current personal and work relationships empowers clients to become better at recognizing and managing difficult feelings and situations. I encourage open expression of thoughts and feelings because that is key to finding one’s voice and being able to assert oneself with others, whether it be with friends, family members, or partners.
Treatment can be brief or long-term, depending on the needs and interests of each client. Regardless of the length of treatment, I find that my clients usually gain deeper self-awareness and enjoy the benefits of the growth that takes place in the safe space that the therapy relationship provides.
