I am a licensed psychologist and certified alcoholism and substance abuse counselor, in practice for 25 years. As a graduate of NYU’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, my modality of choice is psychoanalytic therapy. I am also trained in substance abuse counseling, specializing in addictive disorders, substance- and non-substance related. Other specialties include working with LGBTQ individuals and their families. I was in charge of psychological and substance abuse services on an in-patient AIDS unit for 20 years and thus have much experience helping people with chronic illnesses and families with issues related to death, dying and other traumatic events. I have training in hypnotherapy, and integrate that treatment into therapy whenever it is useful, particularly with habit control problems such as smoking cessation.
