I am certified as a Psychoanalyst by the American Board of Psychoanalysis. Having lived and worked in many different countries and settings, including University-teaching and -research, in the school system, at community service boards, and mostly in private practice, I've learned that each person can only be understood in his/her/their cultural context. I have helped people of all ages cope with life after trauma, brought about by family violence and sexual abuse, or by political violence and war. My areas of focus include: anxiety, depression, aging, trauma, bipolar disorder, and the body-mind connection.

With simple language and humor, I try to help my patients get to the core of “unformulated” hurt.

In the early days (early 1990s) of the existance of the Postdoctoral program at New York University, there were no such things as separate tracks. The faculty members soon organized themselves into Contemporary Freudian, Interpersonal Humanistic and Relational tracks. I became one of the advocates of offering an individually-tailored program of study that would fit regardless of their evolving psychoanalytic orientation, and thus the Independent track was born.

I am a clinical psychologist in Cambridge, Massachusetts practicing intensive, exploratory psychotherapy. I view people's psychological difficulties and emotional imprisonment as due to intimately personal issues that they are too afraid, ashamed of, or guilty about to allow themselves to recognize. We work to bring these issues to light in an atmosphere of safety to promote their freedom from them.
